One of my young friends couldn’t grow because he was only comparing himself to others.

Whether you’re a guy or a girl - we ALL go through this.

A few weeks ago, I was speaking to a young friend of mine. He’s a fellow business owner and I’m honored that he refers to me as his mentor. It’s a role I hold dear and respectfully.

He often told me that other people built a $2.5 million or $10 million business, but he was struggling.

I challenged him to think different.

He has a lovely family, he’s grown his business, he’s provided for his family. He’s on the path to his first $1 Million plus year in business.

Instead of looking at others and measuring himself based on the competition, why not spend MORE TIME focused on building his own business.

Looking at the competition can be good, to some degree.

But using THEM as your yardstick for success and spending LESS time focused on building your own business, serving your own customers and more, is NOT so good.

For sure, we can ADMIRE and learn from others.

We can see what others are doing and see how we can apply that to our own business or our own lives.

But looking at the competition all day long, robs us of growing along our own path.

We look at the competition so much we might lose sight of how we can better serve the customer who is right in front of us.

As a motivational keynote speaker, I for sure admire and see the great work other speakers are doing. Crystal Washington, Seth Godin, Lisa Nichols, Phil M Jones, Dr. Delatorro McNeal and others.

But guess what? I know I’m an amazing speaker and event host as well and know that the gifts and talents I have and how I show up are amazing as well.
